Establish SDEO office in Tamlu: YSU

Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): Teachers and students in Tamlu Town are facing “severe hardship and untold miseries” due to lack of a Sub Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) office, an apex student union from the area informed today.

Tamlu Town, only ADC Headquarter under Longleng District catering to three blocks - Tamlu ADC, Yongnyah EAC and Bura Namsang and more than 25 villages, have over 45 schools and private schools and enrollment of over 3800 (approx) students.

In this connection, Youngshong Students’ Union (YSU), the apex students’ body of 49 A/C Tamlu area, today appealed to the Minister of School Education, Nagaland for immediate establishment of an SDEO office in Tamlu Town.

In a press note addressed to the Education Minister, YSU President M Baushen Phom and General Secretary Chingken claimed that the former had earlier promised to establish an SDEO office during a visit to the Town on August 15, 2014.   “Fulfill the word into action which you have promised,” it said.

Further maintaining that the Government High School in Tamlu Town is in a “pathetic condition” and beyond repair, YSU also requested the Minister for immediate construction of a new school’s building.

Meanwhile, endorsing the ‘genuine demand’ of the Tamlu Area Teachers’ Association under ANSTA Unit, Longleng, for early establishment of SDEO office at the Tamlu Hq, the Union also appealed to the Director of School Education to look into the matter immediately on a “priority basis.”

Teachers and students are facing immense hardship and untold miseries – physically and economically- as they have to travel every now and then to only SDEO office in Longleng district , a good 74 kms way from the town, it said.

Any paper works and other official correspondence could have been done without much difficulties had there been an SDEO at Tamlu ADC Hq, YSU added.

In this regard, YSU once again requested the Education Minister and the Director of the School Education to look into the needs and aspiration of the teachers and students and redress their grievances before the start of 2017 academic year.

We seek earliest solution whereby any circumstances turning into a diatribe and dicey matters could be avoided, the Union further stated.
