Kigwema | November 5
The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) concluded its silver jubilee celebration on November 5 at Kholera, Kigwema with over 5000 delegates from the four regions of the Angami areas as well as neighbouring communities joining in the two day celebration on the theme ‘Kelhou Kevira’ which focused on Ethos, Environment, Education and Economy. Dr. Vilhousa Seleyi, President Angami Public Organisation (APO) graced the finale as the Guest of Honor.
Stressing on the four Es - ethos, education, economy and environment, Dr. Vilhousa Seleyi asserted that the ethos of the Nagas are what strengthen a person as well as the community.
‘Menga (shame), Kenyü (taboo) and Keyie ta suo ho (forbidding the extreme) were important ethos of Angamis which are considered as wealth and the most valued possessions of the Angamis, and those are the ethos that kept a community from committing wrongs.
These were crucial elements of the Angami culture which restricted a person from committing wrongs. Dr. Seleyi, therefore urged the gathering to continue to exhort the people with its values as was done earlier.
“Economy depends on our good health, our lifestyle, food habits.” said Dr. Seleyi who viewed that healthy habits generate economy.
Education, self discipline, putting integrity in one’s work and giving extra efforts, according to Dr. Seleyi are the key points for progress of an individual as well as a people. The love for one’s land and safeguarding of the ecosystem were also stressed where Dr. Seleyi stated, “Prosperity of a community and a person is sustained by protecting and preserving the environment.”
Dr. Seleyi viewed that focusing on the four Es will bring progress to a people as well as strengthen better relationships with neighbouring communities, and accomplish the aspirations of Kelhou Kevira (the good land, or land where life is good)
“Let us revive our values again. Let Kelhou Kevira be ours!” concluded Dr. Seleyi.
Kigwema Village Chairman Thepfurale Zütso in his message lauded the AYO for its achievements in 25 years and hoped that in the next 50 years, the community will see its members excelling in all fields of professions such as Sports, academics, business etc.
“The beauty of a land is its people.” said Zütso.
