EUUN welcomes service-age ‘decision’

Dimapur, July 9 (MExN): The Educated Unemployed Union Nagaland has ‘gladly’ welcomed “the decision” of the government “fixing both length of service at 35 years and upper age-limit of service at 60 years, or whichever is earlier”. The union in a note today stated, “This is the best decision the government has ever taken to open job avenues for younger generation as well as open space for promotion which was jammed due to non-retirement.”

The union also said increasing the retirement age from 57 years to 60 years of age without “fixing” the length of service was a great blunder. “As tampering of age in service would ever continue because in our state most of the people in power think only for their personal benefit at the expense of the majority. But now, the educated unemployed and younger generation can at least hope for job opportunities in the state,” the union stated.

Further, the EUUN said all the vacancies that may arise due to the retirement or expansion of offices “or other reasons”, must be advertised for open competitive examinations. This is to “provide” equality of opportunity to all in public employment and prevent the entry of persons with “bogus educational documents.” The EUUN urged the government to open opportunities to the educated unemployed for self-employment in the industrial and agriculture and allied sectors as well. To “eradicate” unemployment from Nagaland, the EUUN said, the private sector must be expanded.
