Nagaland Paralympics underway in Dimapur

Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): Every citizen with disability should have the same opportunity to live life to the fullest and chase their dream and lift up their potential, Nagaland State Commissioner of Person with Disabilities (PwDs), Diethono Nakhro, stated on Tuesday. 

Speaking at the inauguration of the Nagaland Paralympic 2022 as the special guest at  Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School, Nagarjan, Dimapur on August 23, she further noted that Sports can transform the lives of the people and the community.

As per the State DIPR, Nakhro also expressed hope that while only a few disciplines are being conducted this year, it would grow bigger and stronger in the years to come.

“There is so much potential in sports for the youth with disabilities and the vision is to design and enable them to excel in a sporting arena across the globe,” she stated.

The State PwDs Commissioner also lauded young athletics with disability saying that in sports, the can embrace their disability to find strangeness and power with the possibility that lies within themselves, adding that this example gives others the courage to persuade their hopes and dreams not just in sports but in life as well.

She further expressed gratitude to the Nagaland para sports community, Indian Blind, Para Sports Judo Association And Nagaland Olympic Association and others. 

As the DIPR, the Nagaland Paralympics SON (Special Olympic Association) was established in 2009 and has organised district games and Community Coach training programmes in 11 districts till 2018. 

SON has also participated in the five National Games and several National Championship and National Winter Games.

 In December 2013, four athletes and a Coach participated in the Asia Pacific Games in Newcastle Australia, in which they won one gold and two silvers. Altogether SON has 37 members.
