‘Every penny spent by govt is public money’

Newmai News Network Imphal | April 29   “Every action of the government is your business and every single penny spent by the government is your money. The government belongs to the people,” Manipur IFCD and Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Minister Letpao Haokip said and urged the people not to hesitate to take their grievances to the government.   The Minister was addressing a gathering of village chiefs and public under the auspices of Kuki Chiefs’ Association (KCA), Chandel today at M. Munpi village in Chandel district.   Haokip said that development will not take place unless the people think that the government is theirs and that it truly belongs to them. Saying that petty issues like "clannish interest or clan-centric" issues are responsible for retardation of overall development, the Minister stressed the need to do away with such narrow interests and to look from broader view.   He said that development will automatically happen at a fast pace when people cultivate positive thinking and appealed to all concerned to contribute their energy to bring peace, harmony and overall development in Chandel assembly constituency and to make the constituency an exemplary one.   He further assured to reach all welfare schemes to the targeted beneficiaries. Haokip also sought the cooperation of the district administration in streamlining various projects and schemes and implement the same in the district.   Various village chiefs’ associations of the area and leaders of Kuki Women Human Rights, Chandel presented the Minister with gifts and a memorandum.   The Minister and his entourage were accorded rousing welcome at Langching, Sugnu Zou veng, Sugnu Tribal enruote to the meeting venue. Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district Krishna Kumar and various district level officers besides engineers of PHED and IFCD including Chief Engineer (IFCD), Ksh. Pritam Singh also attended the programme.
