Dr Lorho’s entry will strengthen NPP’s cause in NE: Conrad Sangma
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): Former Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur, Dr Lorho S. Pfoze, who recently resigned from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), has joined the National People’s Party (NPP).
Dr Pfoze was formally welcomed into the party on Tuesday at the NPP headquarters in Shillong by NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, NPP National Secretary Saidul Khan stated in a press release.
Welcoming him, Sangma said Dr Lorho’s experience in public life would strengthen the NPP in championing the cause of the North East. “Dr Lorho brings to the party his experience, wisdom, and support base from the State of Manipur. We are confident that he will be an asset to the party and will work closely to further NPP’s mantra of One Voice, One North East,” he said.
He described Dr Lorho as “a very soft-spoken, honest, and transparent politician” and said he was widely accepted by different communities in Manipur. “He is passionate about working for the entire region and is keen to be the voice of our people from the North East,” Sangma added.
Speaking at length about NPP’s growth, Sangma said the late Purno Agitok Sangma had envisioned the party as a platform to voice the aspirations of the North East. “Today, the party has expanded across the entire region, with people and communities from all sections joining. This is truly a moment for NPP to celebrate and work together to be the strong voice that raises our people’s concerns unitedly,” he said.
In his address, Dr Lorho thanked the party leadership and said the NPP should become the party for all communities in the North East, including indigenous and tribal groups. “We, as indigenous communities, should work together in the region. The vision of late Purno Agitok Sangma is an inspiration for us all. His views were to reach out to all communities in this great nation. I look forward to working with this party. We will reach out to many communities and be as inclusive as possible, always abiding by truth and honesty,” he said.
The function was attended by NPP National Working President James K. Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and State President Prestone Tynsong, senior party leaders, ministers from Meghalaya, MLAs from Manipur, State Working President Sheikh Noorul Hassan, and Panmei Janghemlung.
