Ex-PAN urges Nagaland govt to implement RIIN without delay

Appeals GoI to ink final agreement on Indo-Naga political issue

DIMAPUR, JUNE 3 (MExN): The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has urged upon the state government to sincerely take up the implementation of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) urgently without any more delays.

A press statement issued by the Association on Saturday pointed out that the Commission on RIIN which was instituted by the state government has already submitted its recommendations and findings more than a year ago.

It has also impressed upon the government that there should not be any compromise as far as the date and cut-off year of 1st December 1963 is concerned. “Under no circumstances, be it internal or external should the cut-off date and year of be diluted in any way whatsoever. To not use 01.12.1963 as the cut-off date and year will be detrimental to the future of the indigenous citizens of Nagaland,” the Association sated.

On the Indo-Naga political issue, the Association reminded that the process of political negotiations between the Government of India and the Naga negotiating groups, namely the NSCN (IM) and the Working Committee (WC) of the 7 NNPGs has already been completed on October 31, 2019. What remains is the signing of the final agreement between the negotiating parties.

Towards this, the Association has urged upon the GoI to give the “altar call to all the Naga negotiating parties to honor the completed negotiations and sign the final agreement with a set dateline that will bring the settlement of the Indo-Naga political issue.”

Ruing that the protracted process of political negotiations has taken an immense toll on the lives and welfare of the people of Nagaland, the Association said 26 years of political talks and negotiations is more than enough time for any issue to be resolved.

“Therefore, it is more than high time to end the negotiations and declare whether the talks that have lasted over two decades is a success or a failure as the process cannot be left indefinitely anymore.”
