The All Nagaland Ex-servicemen Committee today joined the nationwide protest demanding equal military service pension "One Rank One Pension" (OROP) by holding a peaceful demonstration outside Raj Bhavan Kohima.

All Nagaland Ex-Servicemen Committee (HCO’s, JCO’s, NCO’s, OR’s of Nagaland) officials informed that they joined the nationwide rally in protest against the discriminatory treatment meted out to them in the implementation of OROP and several other anomalies.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Governor and Chief Minister of Nagaland.

The memorandum stated that on November 14 2022, thousands of ex- servicemen from all over the country gathered at Jantar Mantar to press for their demands in which 24 soldier unions from all over the country participated.

Later, on February 20, 2023, around 50,000 jawans and 87 jawan unions gathered and demonstrated at Jantar Mantar and a sit-in protest is continuing since then.

Referring OROP, it stated that the Central Government on December 23, 2022 informed in a press release that the benefit of the pension would be given only to those the soldiers who have done colour service and those opting for pre-mature retirement before July 1, 2014.

“Our demand is that all the jawans should be given the benefit of One Rank One Pension,” the memorandum stated.

We demand that OROP given to officers in an unfair manner should be stopped and the previous balance of OROP should be withdrawn along with interest and deposit to the Government treasury, it stated.

It also demanded that the condition of 7 years imposed in the enhance rate of family pension should be abolished and enhance rate of family pension should be given till the age of 67 years of the widow. In other words, the pension received by the living jawan till the age of 67 years should be given the widow of the jawan so that they can take care their children.

It further demanded equalisation of disability pension of officers and jawan for the last 8 years through demand memorandums.

The Ex-servicemen further noted that while it never wanted to raise this issue in the media or social media, due to the 'negative attitude' of the central government, they have to openly raise the issue.

Copy of the memorandum also addressed to the President of India, Prime Minister of India and Defence Minister of India.
