Excise dept’s revenue on the decline?

Since the introduction of Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act 1989, revenue earning of Excise & Prohibition department has witnessed a gradual decline of its revenue.  

This was stated in the annual administrative report 2017-18 of the Excise & Prohibition department tabled at the just concluded first session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly here.  

As per the report, the revenue receipts are as follows: 1987-88 – Rs. 584.37 lakh, 1998-89 – Rs. 550.90 lakhs, 1989-90 – Rs. 110.09 lakh, 1990-91 – Rs. 82.32 lakh, 1991-92 – Rs. 101.15 lakh, 1992-93 – Rs. 100. 36 lakh, 1993-94 – Rs. 98.35 lakh, 1994-95 – Rs. 109.39 lakh, 1995-96 – Rs. 157.00 lakhs, 1996-97 – Rs. 199.00 lakh, 1997-98 – Rs. 210.70 lakh, 1998-99 – Rs. 189.63 lakh, 1999-2000 – Rs. 170.65 lakhs, 2000-2001 – Rs. 176.33 lakh, 2001-2002 – Rs. 182.58 lakh, 2002-2003 – Rs. 197.94. lakh, 2003-2004 – Rs. 200.60 lakh, 2004-2005 – Rs. 204.72. lakh, 2005-2006 – Rs. 195.65 lakh, 2006-2007 – Rs. 213.00 lakh, 2007-2008 – Rs. 280.00 lakhs, 2008-2009- Rs. 333.08 lakh, 2009-2010 – Rs. 311.75 lakhs, 2010-2011 – Rs. 299.23 lakh, 2011-2012 – Rs.255.51 lakh, 2012-2013 – Rs. 400.00 lakh, 2013-2014 – Rs. 451.16 lakh, 2014-2015 – Rs. 408.52 lakh, 2015-2016 – Rs. 416.92 lakh, 2016-2017 – Rs. 461.09 lakh and 2017-2018- Rs. 372. 61 lakh.  

The revenue receipt on excise duty and licence fee (April 2017 to January 2018) stands at Rs. 339.26 lakh and fine amount (April 2017 to January 2018) at Rs. 33.35 lakh, the report stated.
