A total of 23,384 bottles of assorted IMFL were destroyed

The Excise (Mobile Squad), Dimapur on June 24 destroyed a cache of illicit liquor, which was confiscated during an eight-month period from September 2015 to May 2016. The destruction exercise was carried out at the Directorate of Excise & Prohibition.
According to the Superintendent of Excise (Mobile Squad), Katoho Sumi, a total of 23,384 bottles of assorted IMFL were destroyed. A total of 866 cases were registered during the period with as many number of people arrested and booked in connection with the cases, while an amount of Rs. 8,69,000 was realised as monetary penalty from the defaulters. The street value of the destroyed liquor was estimated at Rs. 30 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (Excise), HQ, Lanuwati Jamir giving an overview of the department’s activity during April 15, 2015 to June 15, 2016 informed that as many as 5960 persons were arrested and booked under the NLTP Act. Illicit liquor approximated to be worth Rs. 2.10 crore was impounded and accordingly disposed, it was added.
