Excise steps up surveillance

DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Excise Department has called upon the people in Nagaland state, to help the department, in ensuring free and fair elections and to avoid alcohol related violence in the state. A press note from the Additional Commissioner of Excise and state Nodal Officer EEM, informed that the ECI has designated the Excise department to check illegal flow of liquor and drugs in the state, as “Election Expenditure Monitoring,” and to avoid alcohol related violence during the election.

The state Excise Department has also issued a travel advisory to all public/private vehicles, transporters and carriers not to carry any liquor. It cautioned that offenders would be subject to arrest and detention, which will be under the direct scanner of the ECI.

The department has designated the Superintendents of Excise for all District HQs, as District Nodal Officers for election expenditure monitoring duty. It informed that the department has activated its field formation and activities, stepped up surveillance duty in all sensitive entry and exit routes in the district and has set up a control room, which will function 24X7.

The department further made an appeal for all churches, NGOs, civil societies, student organizations, ward/colony chairmen and GBs in the state to form “vigilant groups” in their respective areas, to keep strict vigil and thwart illegal use, storage, sale and distribution of liquor.
