Kohima, June 3 (MExN): The NDPP today stated that joining of the seven members and their supporters of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to the party does not effect is relationship with BJP.
The joining in any way does not affect the existing dynamics between the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA), the party stated in the first official statement after the political development.
This would only strengthen the Alliance with more members and that the PDA will grow stronger in the days to come, it said.
The NDPP also conveyed firm assurance to its alliance partner the BJP as well as the people that PDA will continue to function as it has been for the last seven years but “stronger and more united.”
“Our collective role as a contributing member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will continue with renewed vigor and commitment,’ it added.
In must be noted here that the seven legislators of the NCP officially merged NDPP on May 31 raising the latter’s strength in the 60-member 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly above halfway mark to 32.
Meanwhile, the NDPP welcomed the seven NCP members into its fold and asserted it was not a random act but belief in the leaderships of the party President, Chingwang Konyak and the Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio.
This move once reiterates the belief that the regional party is an entity that truly feels and understands the needs and aspirations of the people, and better suited position to carry forward the voice of the people, it maintained.
At a time when the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is at a very crucial stage, the joining of these seven leaders will further strengthen the NDPP as a regional party, it said.
This would help the party in furthering its agenda of pursuing the issue with all negotiating parties and the Government of India in expediting a final settlement to the Indo-Naga issue in our role as an active facilitator, it added.
The NDPP once again called upon all the people of the State to continue and extend their support to the NDPP-led PDA Government and help in taking Nagaland to brighter horizons and build the State for future generations to reap and benefit.
