Asks State Vigilance Commission to produce report within 30 days
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 21 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland State Vigilance Commissioner asking the commission to expedite the investigation process being currently undertaken into the implementation of the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme in Nagaland.
The memorandum, appended by NSF President, Kesosul Christopher Ltu and General Secretary, Imtiyapang Imsong informed that the federation had placed the case of discrepancies in the MDM scheme under the Department of School Education through a representation to the then Chief Minister on October 26, 2017.
It had appealed to the government to expedite the investigation process being undertaken by the State Vigilance Commission through Case No. R.C.-05/2016 and R.C.-9/2016.
“The Naga Students’ Federation and its Federating Units in the process of undertaking its Education Tour, 2018 visited various Government Schools and it is being found that, Mid Day Meal Scheme was not provided to the students and the scheme had miserably failed in its implementation and deprived the students of their rights and benefits,” the NSF said.
It further informed that for the academic year 2018, most of the schools were not provided mid-day meal and many schools were supplied with only dal (dried, split pulses) and cooking cost without supply of any other commodities. This compelled the school management to sell few bags of dal in order to purchase rice and other commodities to provide meal to the students, it added.
The NSF asked the State Vigilance Commission to expedite the investigation into irregularities/mismanagement of the scheme and produce the report within 30 days on receipt of this letter.
It further asked the commission to investigate into the discrepancies of the Mid Day Meal Scheme for the year 2017 & 2018 and impose strict effective disciplinary measure to penalize the defaulters of the implementing agencies.
