Solution should be honorable , acceptable to both Nagas and India
Kohima, September 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Congress today urged the Union Government to expedite the Naga talks in the interest of all parties engaged in the peace process. K V Pusa, president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee said several rounds of talks have been held at different levels but have failed to hammer out a solution to the Naga problem. He underscored the need to take forward the Naga peace process with collective efforts. He said the federal government is sincere to addressing the Naga issue by accommodating the desire and aspiration of Naga people within the ambit of the Constitution of India.
Quoting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as saying that the UPA government wants to hammer out a solution to the Naga problem during this tenure, Pusa said “Solution to the Naga problem should be honourable and acceptable to both Nagas and the government of India”. Pusa was addressing the DCC of Kohima executive meeting at Congress Bhavan today.
The NPCC president however said without collective efforts and consensus on the Naga issue, solution would continue to elude the Naga people. For this, the 60 Naga legislators have decided to come together and take one voice to the Centre for early solution to the issue. He also urged the Centre to invite all Naga insurgent groups for the talks.
Pusa said his party had met Prime Minister Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister P Chidambaram and host of other central policymakers and apprised them of the need to expedite the Naga peace process. He expressed optimism that New Delhi would not ignore the desire and aspiration of the Naga people who want to live in peace like any other society.
The Congress supremo of the state also called upon his party workers to work towards ushering in peace and progress in the state so that future Naga generations would live in peace. “Let us all work for peace and tranquility in our land” Pusa called upon the Congress functionaries.
Also, Pusa insisted on an austerity drive across the state. He asked the party’s functionaries to create awareness in their respective constituency for austerity. He also asked the Congress workers to go down to the grass-root and ‘feel the pulse’ of the common people who are deprived of all welfare programme under the state government. “You must go to the people and work with them” he insisted.
The NPCC chief said the Congress is pro-poor and pro-people and so, Congress’ men and women should work with the common people to address their grievances. “We cannot ignore our people at the grass root level” Pusa asserted.
He also thanked the party’s functionaries and loyalists for reposing faith in his leadership. Without them, he could not function as head of the party, Pusa said. He urged the Congress workers not to be impatient for the party being in the opposition bench for the second term.
