Explore ways to engage in positive dialogue: KU appeals

DIMAPUR, MAY 9 (MExN): Anguished over the loss of innocent lives and properties in the ongoing conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis in Manipur, the Konyak Union on Tuesday called on both the warring parties to explore ways to engage in a positive dialogue and address the differences between the communities.

Through a press statement, the KU president, Tingthok Konyak and general secretary, Mangpang K Wangyen condemned the large scale violence perpetrated on both sides and the unprecedented violence, rampant arson and deliberate attack on place of worship and falsely painting communal colour to the conflict by different outlets and vested interest.

“Peace can only prevail when the majority and minority groups have mutual respects for each other and there is no discrimination on the basis of their differences,” it stated.

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families with prayer for early restoration of peace in the state, the KU has called for an end to all forms of violence and discrimination towards any particular community and that goodwill prevail among all communities.

It also appealed the Union Government, Manipur Government and other stakeholders to explore ways and take immediate measures to ensure safety and security of all its citizens.

The KU also expressed gratitude to the Government of Nagaland and the IGAR (North), Kohima for taking initiative towards the safe return of the Nagas stranded in Manipur.
