KOHIMA, NOV 8 (MExN): Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank), in association with United Bank of India and Department of Industry & Commerce, Government of Nagaland, organised a one-day seminar on “Export Procedure and Documentation” at Kohima today. Exim Bank, wholly owned by the Government of India, is completing 25 years of operations in 2006-07.
Inaugurating the programme, Khekiho Zhimomi, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Sericulture and Border Affairs, highlighted the advantages of the North-Eastern region in becoming a gateway for exports to South-East Asian countries, thus meeting the objectives of the Government of India’s “Look East Policy.” Zhimomi complimented Exim Bank in organising the programme, and getting a relevant team of officials to guide the participants.
Delivering the keynote address, Alemtemshi Jamir, Principal Secretary, exhorted the participants to take full advantage of the programme, which would enable entrepreneurs and officials of the Industries & Commerce Directorate, to know more about the various procedures in export documentation, which is the first step towards establishing export-oriented units.
The faculty for the programme included KP John Kutty, Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati; Z Khuma, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Kolkata; Saumar Sonowal, Chief Manager, Exim Bank, Guwahati; Sumana Sarkar, Manager, Exim Bank, Mumbai; PP Singh, Chief Manager, United Bank of India, Kolkata; NC Das, Branch Manager, Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India, Guwahati and Sunil Kumar, OSD, CAPEXIL, Shillong. The programme covered reserve bank’s regulatory guidelines, foreign trade policy, role and functions of Exim Bank, export credit, custom formalities and role of the CAPEXIL. S Srinivas, Deputy General Manager, Eximius Centre, Exim Bank, Bangalore, briefed the participants on the programme’s objectives.
Earlier, G Keppen Rengma, Director of Industries & Commerce, welcomed the participants while MK Mero, OSD, Industries & Commerce, offered the vote of thanks. A cross section of exporters, entrepreneurs and government officials attended the programme.
