KOHIMA, JANUARY 8 (MExN): The Power Department has informed all electricity consumers under Kohima Electrical Division that extensive disconnection drive of defaulting consumers who have not paid electricity bills including government offices, SPM villages, pre-paid consumers, and disconnection of illegal/unauthorized connections will commence from January 10.
A press release from the Executive Engineer, Kohima Electrical Division asked all categories of consumers (urban and rural areas) under Kohima Electrical Division to clear their electricity bills at the earliest in order to avoid inconvenience.
Further, it warned the public not to resort to illegal/unauthorized usage of electricity in the form of hooking, tampering of Energy Meter, by-passing of Energy meter etc as it is a serious offence and shall invite penalty in the form of fine/imprisonment or both as per Indian Electricity Act, 2003.
It further asked consumers to read the information printed at the back of the electricity bill and to note that non-receipt of bill does not mitigate liability for payment of charges for energy consumed. The consumer should therefore in his own interest enquire from the location office of bill(s) not received, it added.
In case of any discrepancies and any other grievances in the bill, consumers have been asked to visit the offices of their respective SDO(E) No I, II, Ill for clarification, correction, and rectification. The department also advised all electricity consumers, including pre-paid metered consumers, to utilize the department's portal https://dopn.gov.in to make bill payment or recharge.
