Eye & dental health camps held in Longleng district

Longleng, June 24 (MExN): The District Health Society, Longleng has conducted various health camps in the district staring over the week, a press release informed on Friday.

According to the press release, a ‘Free Cataract Surgery Eye Camp’ was held at the District Hospital, Longleng from June 20 to 24 during which 39 patients availed free cataract eye surgery while a few others received minor eye surgery. 

The camp was sponsored by the National Program for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment Nagaland, the release stated.

The team for the camp comprised of Dr Imnapokim (Sr Eye specialist), District Hospital Tuensang; Dr Renjano (Jr Eye specialist) IMDH Mokokchung; Medemnochetla (Staff Nurse), IMDH Mokokchung; Temjenkala (ANM) IMDH Mokokchung; Takunaro (Civil Attendant) IMDH Mokokchung; Lechu Iralu (Ophthalmic Assistant) NPCB &VI Directorate; and I Tochi Imlong (Ophthalmic Assistant) CHC Longkhim.

In another release, it was informed that a ‘Dental Health Camp’ was organised at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Bura Namsang, Longleng district on June 23 by the National Oral Health Program, Nagaland.

A short formal programme was also conducted where Dr Mongmei, Medical Officer, PHC Bura Namsang delivered the welcome speech and key note address was given by Dr Bongau Phom, Dental Specialist, District Hospital Longleng.

According to the release, Dr Phom highlighted the importance of oral hygiene and how maintaining oral hygiene can prevent many oral problems like tooth decay, gingivitis, bad breath, periodontal diseases etc. 

He further emphasised on the harmful effect of tobacco usage and how it predisposes individuals to pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions of the oral cavity. He ended his note by encouraging the public to quit chewing tobacco and smoking so as to increase life expectancy of an individual.

The release stated that Dr Lemshikala and Dr Bongau Phom treated a total of 74 patients. 

The programme was inaugurated with a prayer by Hamchon, Pastor of Bura Namsang Baptist Church
