Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): An eye screening camp cum eye donation awareness programme was held in SD Jain Higher Secondary School (SDJHSS) Dimapur which was organized by District Health Society Dimapur in collaboration with Department of Ophthalmology, Civil Hospital Dimapur.
In the morning assembly, Dr. Pokim, Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur briefed to the students and staff members on the importance of eye donation. He said that eye donation is a noblest way of helping the blind. Only the cornea part of the eye is removed after the death of a person who agreed to donate the eyes. He further added that any person can pledge to donate his/her eyes without consideration of age, sex or social status. He also felicitated the family members of five eye donors from the Jain community.
Later, eye screening was done for the students and faculty members of the school by a team of experts under the guidance and supervision of Dr. P. Longkumer, Ophthalmologist, Civil Hospital, Dimapur.
Over 600 hundred student’s eye screening was done. Out of which ninety students have been detected with refractive errors. Some of the students were provided with free glass frames and medicines.
