Jalukie | August 8
Sensing the need and urgency of district boundary demarcation of Peren, the Zeliangrong Baudi (HOHO) with the Elders Forum and area leaders convened, what could be termed as the tribes’ highest level meeting yesterday at an undisclosed location.
The gathering came down heavily on the “Report of R. Ezung, IAS” Secretary to the Government of Nagaland dated May 28, 2002 on the inter district boundary demarcation committee (for Dimapur and Kohima). Yesterday’s meeting termed the Ezung Report as irrelevant and biased.
The observation made in the report and later recommended to the Nagaland Government that demarcation of inter-district boundary of Dimapur and Kohima with particular reference to Jalukie and Dhansiripar Sub-Division be on the basis of administrative convenience irrespective of claims and counter claims of land possessions by communities, was out rightly rejected and condemned by the gathering.
The meeting decided to resolutely stand by its traditional boundaries, for apart from the British maps, the map of North East India is very new (Nascent), and expressed doubt as to whether the so-called Report which is totally irrelevant and one sided was prepared under external threat and duress.
The Zeliangrong Hoho initiated meeting took the stand that there was no point of demarcating the Kohima and Dimapur boundary without taking into confidence the Apex body and the land owners who are ready to provide valid documents for the perusal of the Nagaland Government if required.
Moreover, the meeting yesterday urged the government to restrain from taking any quick decision in such vital issue of boundary demarcation between 2 (two) districts which could results in bad blood and misunderstanding between tribes. The house further deemed those villagers inhabiting the land without proper consent of land owners as invaders and affirmed that it will not part an inch of their land from the traditional boundary at any cost.
During the course of its marathon discussion, the house unanimously formed a four member district boundary demarcation Committee to represent the tribes to put pressure and work in tandem with the State Government in resolving the present boundary imbroglio.
The dignitaries present at the meeting included Denis Elung, President Zeliangrong Baudi, AK Lungalang, DK Zeliang, Rtd PCCF Nagaland, Dr. T Zeliang, Rtd Director Vety and Animals Husbandry, Longbe Meru, ex-MLA, Tarie, MLA 7 Tening A/C, Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation, and village representatives of the district.
