In a commendable feat, Nagaland’s own Faith In Action Martial Arts Academy has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for “The Highest Martial Arts Kick (Assisted)” on the sets of India’s Got Talent in Mumbai on July 5.

In doing so, the team broke an over decade long record achieved in China in 2012.

According to the GWR’s website, the record in China was achieved by Simon Lass (Germany) on 9 December 2012 by kicking 4.30 metre (14 ft 1.2 inches) on the set of a CCTV (China Central Television) Guinness World Records Special, in Beijing, China. While Lass holds the record for male category, in the female category, the feat was achieved by Alison Johnson (USA), in McKinney, Texas, USA, on 20 April 2019 by kicking 2.38 metre (7 ft 10 inches).

In an interview with The Morung Express, Coach and founder Deep Kumar expressed his elation for bringing laurels to the State of Nagaland by the young dynamic team.

Giving a brief background to their journey so far, Kumar said the team had been practicing for the record breaking event before the Coronavirus pandemic that ensued in 2020, which halted their dream of setting records on four different categories.

When the team was selected for the reality show India’s Got Talent, they also learnt that the Guinness World Records event would be held in the same platform, and the team seized the opportune moment to realise their dream. Due to limited time frame for practice in other categories, the team decided to stick on this category this time.

The team of four namely, Kevin, Kitenlo K Thono, Gwhailo Kent and Kumugha participated in the record-breaking event. They hope to bring more laurels in the future.

Meanwhile, the State has more to anticipate as Faith In Action has been selected for the second round of the popular reality show in India, which is set to air from July 29 and 30 at 9:00 pm on Sony TV, with the team’s show likely to be aired in the coming month, August. Kumar also disclosed that talks are on that the organisers are likely to touch down in Dimapur to document a regular day in the lives of the team.

Acknowledging God for the achievement, Kumar said that “it is not because of our ability, I believe it is the grace of God.” The coach was also especially thrilled to witness all the ‘high-profile leaders of the State’ acknowledging their success. Mention may be made that from the Chief Minister to the Deputy CMs, ministers and advisors of government of the day took to twitter to congratulate the exemplary team of ten on July 10. “It is a big thing for us,” he said while adding, “the laurel we bring is for the people of Nagaland.”
