A fake message asking students to register for online internship webinar for St. Joseph College, Jakhama has been doing the round on WhatsApp.

The message from a person by the name Vivek from Immensphere Bangalore along with a website link says it is “organizing online internship webinars for your college students St. Joseph Jakhama.”

While the source of the message and when it started circulating is unknown, the Principal of the college, Fr George SJC Dzeyie informed that the authority has not been organizing any such type of internship or programme or had no connection with the so called person or company.

“A student has earlier enquired with me about the same, and I have asked them to ignore as it is not true,” the principal informed.

The message which asks class representatives to share the information also adds in another message to share it with the class and friends group so all interested students can join the group.

While the nature of the message may be fraud and the same may cause students to become victims of cyber crimes, the college authority when asked if any legal action was taken further informed that, no FIR or complaint with the Police or Cyber Crime cell was initiated.

Fr George mentioned that a similar incident had also occurred in the past where fake messages were being circulated in the name of the principal. The case was however not taken forward as enquiry from Police had come only after a year and by that time, the principal with whose name the fake message was circulated had been transferred.
