Family planning awareness raised in Kiphire district

Kiphire, March 2 (MExN): The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) in collaboration with the Family Planning Association of India, Nagaland Branch organized a sexual reproductive health and family planning camp in Penkim, Pungro and Khongsa villages under Kiphire district on February 19 and 20.

The team was led by Dr. Dietho Koza. The purpose of the camp was to create basic awareness on family planning methods and to sensitize the community on sexual reproductive health and rights issues. Furthermore, the camp also aimed to provide free medical health services, counselling on family planning methods and laboratory services.

Altogether, 212 community members participated in the awareness sessions and 146 patients were treated during the two days health camp for various ailments and 73 children received deworming treatment. It was observed that a majority of the patients that came for consultation suffered from waterborne diseases like chronic gastritis and various skin ailments, especially in children. There was also a large unmet need for family planning services in these villages with limited or no access to contraceptives.

A press note also informed that many families also reported having more than 10 children in the villages covered during the health camp.
