Wokha, June 25 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland along with Godrej Agrovet Private Limited (GAVL) conducted distribution of farm machineries for oil palm farmers and the first buy-back of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) of oil palm farmers from Baghty Sub-Division under Wokha District at the office of the SDAO Baghty on June 24. 

The programme was flagged off by C Peter Yanthan, Additional Director of Agriculture in the presence of Z Hukhato Sema, Joint Director of Agriculture-NMEO-Oil Palm, L Sunep Pongener, District Agriculture officer Wokha, Renathung Kikon, SDAO Baghty and Field Executive from GAVL, stated a press release received here.

Speaking to the farmers, C Peter Yanthan, Additional Director of Agriculture has reiterated “the commitment of the industry partner and the Department of assured buy back of FFBs from old plantation too.” Yanthan stated that “the Department has given extra effort to engage reliable partners and accordingly buy backs are now a consistent activity.”

Interacting with the farmers he also emphasised on the importance of edible oil to the economy of the country and how Nagaland farmers can contribute towards saving of foreign exchange of the country through cultivation of oil palm. Further, he pointed out “downplayed and the negative campaign against oil palm cultivation creating environmental pollution and other effects,” the press release stated. The programme was followed by interacting with the farmers.
