Kohima, September 9 (MExN): ATMA Chunlikha block, Kohima district inaugurated a Farm School on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) at Ziphenyu village on September 4.

Kebegi Kent, ATM Chunlikha block gave a brief introduction on the concept, function and role of a farm school. Solomon Mesung was appointed as the farm teacher. Mesung shared his experiences on SRI and how it has boosted the production continuously for 3 years. He encouraged the other farmers who attended the programme to follow this system.

The farmers were also sensitized about Kisan Call Center which “is just one call away from solving their problems.” The Kisan Call Center is one of the top help lines for farmer, the purpose of these call centers is to respond to issues raised by farmers instantly in the local language. A farmer from any part of the state can contact the KCC by dialing the toll free telephone no: 1800-180-1551 and present their problems related to farming.

A demonstration on operation of cono weeder was also conducted on the SRI Field where the farmers were taught and demonstrated on how to use the machine. It is a machine used for weeding in lowland paddy field, can be easily drawn by hand and cost efficient. A total of 7 farmers attended the program.
