Medziphema, February 21 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two-day training program on ‘Mobilization of Groups and Operation of farm School Phase-II’ for farmer friends from six ATMA districts viz., Dimapur, Kohima, Peren, Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto at SAMETI, Medziphema on February 20 and 21.
Director SAMETI, Medziphema in a press release stated that the training programme was aimed at revisiting the roles of Farmer Friend (FF) with special reference to group mobilisation and farm school.
Resource persons for the training program were Vikaho Chophi, Tiajungla Longchar and Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Directors, SAMETI. The training programme covered topics on Introduction to ATMA, Organisational structure at various levels; Farmer Friend (FF)-Concept, objectives, duties; Farm School- Concept, objectives, functions, role of FF; Mobilization of groups, Group approaches of CIG, FIG & FSG.
A field trip to Pineapple farm school in Molvum village under Medziphema block was undertaken where the Farmers Friend interacted with the farm school teacher. They were appraised on the functioning and activities carried out in the farm school.
The valedictory function was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Hetoi Kiba, farmer friend of Dimapur and Anna Humtsoe, farmer friend of Wokha. In her valedictory address, Dr. I Amenla, Director SAMETI & Principal, IETC Medziphema, congratulated the Farmers friend on the successful completion of the training and encouraged the participants to play a key role and act as agents in the village to disseminate information. She also advised them to utilise the skills and knowledge gained during the training while associating with the farming community.
The training programme concluded with distribution of certificates and handouts to the participants while vote of thanks was proposed by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI.
