Farmers in Changki attend training

Mokokchung, April 29 (MExN): Farmers Cells, SASRD, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, in collaboration with Mission Board, Baptist Church Changki organized a training programme for farmers on April 26 and 27. A press note stated that the programme comprised of two technical sessions followed by demonstrations. The first technical session was conducted by Dr. M. Catherine Rutsa, Asst. Prof. Department of Livestock Production & Management, SASRD on April 26.She gave a detailed lecture on piggery and its management and also on basic treatment of common diseases.   An innovative tubers slicing equipment invented by Imnameren Ao, proprietor of Venture Lucy Enterprise, Suhoi village, was also demonstrated. Veterinary medicines contributed by Dr. Salang and Dr. Asenuo Changkiri were distributed.  

On April 27, the second technical session started with a presentation by Dr. Pauline Alila, Associate Prof Department of Horticulture, SASRD on kitchen garden ideas and innovative methods of growing vegetables in small places through low cost vertical farming. Vegetable seeds contributed by Dr. C. S. Maiti, Programme Officer, Tribal Sub Plan AICRP (VC) on vegetables, SASRD: NU was also distributed.   Dr. Narola Pongener, Asst Prof Department of Plant Pathology, SASRD, deliberated on disease management of vegetables and its management and also gave a presentation on mushroom cultivation.   Dr. Malini B. Sharma, Asst Prof, Department  of Genetics & Plant Breeding, SASRD, spoke on the topic Conservation, covering not only seed conservation but also the food chain and its linkage with the environment. She also emphasized on the negative impact of coal mining on the environment, health, and future survival of the people.   The demonstrations conducted were on preservation of vegetables by Dr. Pauline Alila and mushroom cultivation by Dr. Narola Pongener. The sponsored mushroom spawns were also distributed. The programme coordinator was Dr. J. Longkumer, Associate Prof Department of Agricultural Extension, SASRD.
