Zunheboto: Field visit cum training programme at Lumami village and Sutemi village of Zunheboto district was conducted on March 3.
The department of agriculture under the supervision of Olem, SDAO Akuluto sub division has organized the programme to know the constraints faced by farmers at the field level and offer suggestions to improve their farming practices.
The resource persons from KVK, Nagaland University, Visakho Shunyu SMS (GPB) spoke on the improve cultivation practices of kholar and soybean. Farmers were encourage cultivating it on large scale, as it is found suitable in the area and could therefore sustain their livelihood. Sentimenla, SMS (Soil Sc), delivered on the management of fallow jhum lands for sustainable soil health and to enhance crop productivity.
Olem, SDAO Agriculture while appreciating the farmer’s hard work exhorted them to take up agriculture in a more sincere way so that enough food is produce to feed every Nagas. He also encouraged the farmers to grow alder tree in jhum fallow land with assurance of giving incentive for every single alder trees grown in the fallow land.
H. Shetovi Zhimo, Council chairman of Lumami village appreciated the state department for organizing such need base programme in the farmers field, and is of the opinion that more such activities will be initiated in the coming days.
