Farmers encouraged to grow pulses

Longleng, December 19 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Longleng under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani organised field day on pulses production under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) on December 12 at Yongam village in Longleng district. The field day was organized to create awareness about pulses among farmers and disseminate information regarding pulse cultivation techniques in rice fallow.  

Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy) urged the farmers to grow pulses like green gram, black gram, lentil, pea etc. in rice fallow for betterment of their livelihood, increased income and soil fertility improvement through atmospheric nitrogen fixation which increases the yield of succeeding crop, informed a press release.  

Altogether, 67 farmers from Yongyah and Yongam villages participated in the field day along with KVK officials. The farmers asked for more seed next year, the release added.
