Dimapur, March 23 (MExN): A one day Farmer Scientist Interaction programme was held on March 21 at Niuland Town by ATMA Dimapur.
The programme was conducted to encourage farmers in adopting cultivation of crops organically. During the programme, discussions between the farmers and experts from ATMA, KVK and ICAR, Jharnapani were carried out in several topics like cultivation methods of fruits, spices and vegetables, vermicompost, FYM, biological method of pests’ management, IFS, soil management, Jhumming methods and Marketing prospects of Rabi crops.
Dr. Azeze Seyie, Scientist (Spices, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic plants), ICAR, Nagaland centre, Jharnapani elaborated on Cultivation methods of spices like black pepper, turmeric and ginger. She also emphasized on methods of pests management like use of yellow sticky fly traps, pheromone traps, application of neem oil, etc.
James Kikon, ACTO (Soil Science), KVK-Jharnapani elaborated with special focus on Vermicompost, soil health management and Jhum cultivation methods.
Further, Kolom Rabi, ACTO (Plant Breeding), KVK-ICAR, Jharnapani mentioned about the Marketing prospects of Rabi crops and Farm Yard Manures. He cited the examples and success stories of farmers from other districts and states based on marketing channels of seasonal crops. James Kikon, ACTO (Soil Sc.), KVK, Jharnapani highlighted on the Soil health management, vermicomposting and integrated farming techniques and its benefits. The programme witnessed around 37 farmers and it was chaired by Demalu Hasnusa, BTM, Niuland Block.
