Farmers gain knowledge on technical awareness

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): One day training on technical awareness of IPM was held at Suhoi Village on August 10. The programme was chaired by SK Khemprai, SDAO (HQ). The Chairperson said that trainings are basically exchange of technical know-how because there are several ITK’s playing vital role in the agricultural sector. While informing this in a press note,   Ahovi Sema, DAO & PD (ATMA) Dimapur stated that “Chemicals do play a role in agriculture but solely depending on chemical use is causing alarming climate change globally.”
Keynote address was delivered by Ahovi Sema, DAO & PD (ATMA) Dimapur. He mentioned that farming community has lots of problems with pest and disease occurrence which is not easy to control unless farmers have sound mind and technical knowledge with assistance from Agriculture and Allied Departments. Identification and preservation and use of naturally occurring insects and organisms that in crop eco-system is important for high Agriculture production. Preservation of wild birds and animals play a vital role in biological control of agriculture. Banned chemicals by the Government of India such as Endosulfan should not be used due to its residual effect on human health, environment and livestocks. Eco-friendly green manuring nitrogen fixing plants like Dhaincha should be grown intensively.
Resource person Deepak Chetri, STA, Tissue Culture Lab, Dimapur delivered on major pest of paddy and control. He mentioned that egg parasitoid trichogramma chilonis, trichogramma japonicum which is produced in Bio-control Lab, Medziphema by the department, plays a major role in control of many pests in paddy crop. He mentioned that effective pest control is achieved by summer ploughing.
Bendanglila, APP, Dao’s Office Dimapur delivered on Rodent Pest Management, Awareness and control. She mentioned that Bandicoots are the major rodent species dominant in the district causing considerable loss to crops in field and also in storage. Biological, Mechanical and chemical control measures were discussed.                             
Vote of thanks was pronounced by Toivi, AO. Field demonstration for AESA (Agri Eco-System Analysis), release of tricho cards, pest and disease identification was conducted. Over 60 farmers from 14 Villages under Kuhuboto Block participated in the programme. The programme was marked by distribution of Rodenticide and Bio-agents free of cost.
