JALUKIE, APRIL 16 (MExN): A training program on modern horticulture technologies was conducted at the Community Multi-Training Centre (CMTC) in Jalukie Town on Wednesday aiming to equip local farmers with updated agricultural practices. The event was organized by Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), with support from the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The training focused on promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), sustainable farming methods, local-level value addition, and exploring alternative markets to help farmers secure better prices for their produce.
Around 50 farmers from six villages in the Jalukie area participated in the program. Most of the attendees cultivate crops such as ginger, turmeric, pineapple, oranges, Naga chillies, and seasonal vegetables. The training was specifically organized for Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) associated with the Jalukie Farmers Producer Company Limited (FPO), which assists farmers in aggregating produce for bulk sales.
Horticulture Inspectors Izaile and Sushienla from the District Horticulture Department, Peren served as resource persons during the session. Organizers stated that the training is expected to improve both productivity and income for farmers while supporting broader goals related to sustainable agriculture and rural development.
