Pughoboto, February 2 (DIPR): After a gap of over five years, quality potato seeds under the SMSP were distributed free of cost to farmers and SHGs at the office of SDAO, Pughoboto on February 2.
SDAO, Pughoboto, Myanthung Patton distributing the seeds, encouraged the beneficiaries to cultivate the same at areas suitable for a sustainable economy. Apprising the farmers that the seeds are chemically treated and harmful for health, he warned them of consuming the seeds. He also impressed on the farmers to cultivate the seeds for commercial purpose in addition to their domestic consumption. The seeds cost about Rs. 70/Kg in the open market and could reach up to Rs.4000/bag if transportation charges are included, he informed. He further sought the cooperation of the farmers for successful implementation of the various schemes.
