Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): AICRP (Vegetable Crops), Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU under NEH and TSP conducted a one-day Farmers-Scientists Interaction programme focusing on “Holistic Management of Insect Pest of winter vegetable Crops” at Beisumpuikam village under Peren district.
The aim of the training programme was to make them aware of the importance, benefits and advantage of vegetables and also to make the farmers identify the various insect pests of winter vegetable crops and their management.
The technical session on “Holistic Management of Insect Pest of winter vegetable Crops” was delivered by Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, Dept of Entomology, SASRD: NU where he gave a pictorial presentation on the major insect pests of winter vegetable crops.
He showed the farmers all the major pests that attacks the vegetable fields in winter and also showed how they could manage them in an integrated manner without affecting the quality of the crop.
The training was attended by about 100 farmer participants. The programme started with a prayer by the Chairman of Beisumpuikam village followed by brief introduction by Dr Moakala Changkiri, Scientist, AICRP (VC)& PI, NEH Component of Vegetable Crops, SASRD, Nagaland University.
This was followed by an interactive session along with feedback from farmer participants. All the participants were given kitchen kits consisting of hand shovel and organic biofertilizer. In the wrap up session farmer participants Tadibe, Village Chairman and Pinkham shared their gratitude on behalf of the village as a whole to AICRP (Vegetable Crops) for all the technical and material help provided to them and assured full cooperation in the future programmes too.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr Moakala Changkiri, Yongkogtula, Thungpenthung and Vepo.
