Farmers trained on use of bank loan & recycling of credit

Kohima, June 1 (MExN): The Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC), Zunpha in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) conducted an awareness programme on joint liability group and farmers’ club with the objective to ensure proper end use of bank loan and recycling of credit.  

Progressive farmers from six villages under Tseminyu and Chunlikha blocks of Kohima district viz. Chunlikha, Henbenji, Tsonsa, Tseminyu village, Nsunyu and Likhwenchu were adequately sensitized during the programme which was conducted in the Conference Hall of CRBC, Zunpha on 31st May 2016.

Accordingly, the participants decided to form Farmers’ Clubs in their respective villages with support from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima and banks.  

The members of Farmers’ Clubs will in turn be encouraged by CRBC to form into activity based Joint Liability Groups of 4 to 10 members each for taking up Income Generating Activities (IGAs) by availing bank loan without collateral but purely on the strength of peer partnership. This approach will ensure proper utilisation and repayment of bank loan thereby creating a win-win situation for stakeholders including banks.

 Appreciating the role of Farmers’ Clubs, Puhovil, Branch Manager of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NStCB), Tseminyu branch also conveyed the willingness of his bank branch to extend necessary support to JLGs promoted by CRBC. Speaking on the importance of timely repayment, he also appreciated the recent support extended by CRBC to his bank in the recovery of overdue loans. Striking a similar note, Gwakenye Tep, Chief Co-ordinator of Phenwhenyu Farmers’ Club, Phenwhenyu village also shared the efforts made by their Club to improve the repayment climate including recovery of overdue loans in their village.  

Hini Tep, Secretary and Arhunlo Semp, Development Secretary, CRBC pronounced the invocation and chaired the meeting respectively. Longma Yanger Pongen, KVK Kohima, Puhovil, Branch Manager, NStC Band Bendang Aier, AGM, NABARD attended as resource persons.
