Farmers’ training on persimmon cultivation held

Phek, July 28 (MExN): The first of its kind two-day farmers’ training programme on “persimmon cultivation” was conducted at Horticulture Research Farm (HRF) Pfutsero under Phek district from July 25 to 26 last.
The training programme was organized by HRF in collaboration with the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema, according to Senti Longchar, Horticulture Officer.
Dr NK Patle, incharge Director, CIH Medziphema, in his keynote address said that Pfutsero area has a huge potential for development of temperate fruits like kiwi, peach, plum, pears, apple and also persimmon fruit. He also encouraged the department and the district administration to organize a mega event of buyers and sellers meet, in the coming days, to create more exposure and opportunities to the farmers. Zeneikhonuo Vimero, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pfutsero also exhorted the participants from various villages to seriously take up projects and continue to uplift the economy of the farming community.
The main resource person of the training programme was Dr Rinku Bharali, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, Horticulture, KVK Phek. Dr Rinku spoke on the Nursery Management, propagation, Cultivation techniques and value addition of Persimmon fruit and field visit and demonstration was conducted by Kewecheu Khalo, Horticulture Inspector.
The training programme concluded successfully with distribution of certificates to about 100 farmers by Moalemba, DHO Phek, the release added.
