A fashionable inspiration!

When I first came across Chonchon Moriarty’s photos at a popular networking site, I thought that she was such a pretty face. And a very successful pretty face, judging by the numerous photo campaigns she has been featured at. Well, it’s an understatement when I say she is more than just a pretty face. When I asked her what she is doing in Florida, I got more than what I bargained for. Her list of credentials ran on and on. My weak “wow, I’m impressed”, was too lame a compliment!
Half Thangkul and Ao, born in Kangpokpi, Manipur and raised in Imphal, later relocating to Siliguri, West Bengal in 2001, this pretty lass was raised by two God fearing Mission Oriented parents- Peter and Moala Kashung. She also has two brothers and a sister.
Chonchon Moriarty on being a model, student, a Naga and much more in Florida Do not let her pretty pictures fool you for a bit, for Chonchon is double majoring in Telecommunications and Film as well as International studies at the University of West Florida. Currently residing in Navarre, Florida, Chonchon says she is not done yet with her studies. In fact she says, “I do not think I'll ever be done studying. I'm always hungry for more that is why I decided to try shooting for two bachelors at the same time.”
Chonchon moved to United States in 2006 and attended a Bible institute in Upstate New York called Word of Life Bible Institute, where she studied youth counseling and graduated by the summer of 2007. Then she moved to Virginia to pursue Broadcasting and then later decided to transfer to the University of West Florida because they allowed majoring in two bachelors at one time.
“In between classes and free time, I work part time as a promotional model for the education institutes and Universities that I've attended. I also work as a free lance model with the photographers here. Apart from modeling, I freelance as a Hair and Makeup artist and collaborate with other photographers for their shoots / and do Hair and Makeup for independent movies too,” is how she casually sums up her busy schedule.
Chonchon also proclaims a love for art, leading her to work as a Henna Tattoo artist in Destin, Florida. So far, Chonchon has been featured in two educational papers in United States. The first one was for a fashion show in Lynchburg, Virginia for a paper called "The Champions". The second time, for the front page of another paper called “The Voyager" in Florida for representing India in another Fashion show.
Chonchon is also perhaps the first and only Naga Model to be published at Nepal's very first fashion website called www.mfashionista.com. She is obviously good at what she does for she went on to be published three more times on the site and will be published even more in the coming future.
Revealing her future plans, Chonchon says, “Eventually, I would like to see myself as a Producer/Director and work in a television station. My ultimate goal is to open my own Production and come work with the musically talented Naga youths in India and improve the music video production scene. I strongly believe in Educating and promoting Naga tribe out here in United States and I'm proud to represent my people. My future plans are to help renovate and improve the media/film industry in north-east India.
Chonchon also says that her determination comes from her Parents. “They both come from very humble upbringing. My parents are my inspiration, they constantly remind me to this day that with God, I can achieve anything,” she said.  As long as you fear God, Work hard, stay humble and always remember your roots you will achieve success and make your people proud.
Although she has life set in Florida for now, Chonchon says that she tries her best to visit the Naga websites and forums online in a bid to keep in touch with her roots.  The one thing she says she misses the most apart from her family is the Naga food. And particularly her mom's cooking (especially Ao style Pork and Bamboo shoot).
Commenting on Nagaland, Chonchon shares, “I can see that it's improving but I believe there is always room for more improvement. I'm really proud of Alobo Naga and The Band for making it BIG in India. I noticed that we have an extremely large amount of talented youths that needs proper guidance, promotion and support. This is where I would like to play a role in the coming future. This is something that strives me to become better and I definitely look forward to it”. Naturally for someone who is far away from her family and roots, Chonchon expresses that she feels like a little fish swimming with the sharks but that, “I know I have a reason why God placed me here”.
