Zunheboto, March 30 (MExN): The Food Safety Administration, Zunheboto under Mokokchung Zone conducted an awareness camp on safe and fortified food, repurposing used cooking oil, good manufacturing practices and sensitisation of food business operators (FBOs) at the CMO Conference Hall, Zunheboto on March 30.
Participants included wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, hotels, manufacturers, Anganwadi staff and self-help groups (SHGs).
Designated Officer Samuel Zehol highlighted the responsibilities of FBOs regarding FSSAI registration and licensing of their establishments. He also stressed mandatory compliance with hygiene and sanitation norms, including possession of medical fitness certificates for employees at the manufacturing level.
Emphasising the importance of fortified food, he said it is a safe and cost-effective way to improve nutrition without altering eating habits.
He further cautioned against repeated use of cooking oil, noting that it can generate harmful chemicals leading to serious health issues. Repurposing used cooking oil is an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The Food Safety on Wheels team, Mokokchung, also demonstrated detection of common food adulterants for participants.
