A dedicated Facilitation Centre for people from other states stranded in Nagaland will start functioning at the Directorate of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS), Dimapur from May 6. In an order issued today, the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, said that this was being arranged in view of the lockdown and the recent relaxations affected by the government to help stranded people return to their home states. The Facilitation Centre will open from 11:00 am onwards.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland state government was yet to make an announcement on the action taken or to be taken up to help stranded persons wishing to return to their home states. While people from Assam, who were stranded here, have started leaving after applying and going through the mandatory medical checks, an unspecified number of mostly daily wage earners from UP and Bihar in Dimapur have also applied for ‘Fitness Certificate’ to enable them to leave Nagaland.

On making arrangements for these people to leave for their home states, a district administration official said that it will be up to the state government to arrive at a decision to make arrangements. Once we have the numbers within 2-3 days, then we will decide. Once we get a list of people, the government will have to decide on making the arrangements to transport them (by bus or rail).”

As on May 5 evening, approximately 300-400 persons have left for Assam via New Field and Dillai inter-state check-posts, the official said.

Since the Assam government opened its borders for people wishing to return to the state, the number of people from other states seeking permission to leave Nagaland has increased, especially in Dimapur.

A Dimapur district Health official told The Morung Express today that the District Control Room for COVID-19 has issued over 4000 certificates beginning May 2.  The official said that the total mostly includes people from UP and Bihar. From 487 and 768 certificates on May 2 and 3, it shot up to 1475 and 1344 on May 4 and 5.
