The felicitation programme for the newly elected Wokha Town Councillors, under the PDA Alliance was held in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Advisor to CM & Sr Vice President CEB NDPP Nagaland, Dr Chumben Murry and MLA & Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan at Lotha Hoho conference hall on July 5. 

Dy CM Patton in his address underscored the robust alliance between the NDPP and BJP, affirming its strength under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Patton emphasised adherence to stringent protocols within the alliance and cautioned against any involvement in anti-party activities, reminding councillors of the repercussions under anti-defection laws.

The Dy CM urged the councillors to prioritise development initiatives in their respective wards, particularly focusing on improving the district hospital road, and encouraged them to submit proposals to legislators for consideration. Addressing the parking challenges in Wokha, he encouraged councillors to formulate and propose a comprehensive parking strategy.

He also called for cooperation and active participation from citizens to bolster development endeavours. Further, he assured that the elected MLA of Wokha would extend support and collaboration for cohesive development, urging for progress and collective advancement of Wokha Town.

Advisor to CM Dr Chumben Murry in a brief address highlighted that the 2024 ULB Election was conducted after a gap of 20 years, expressing satisfaction at the peaceful conduct in our district. Dr Murry urged the newly elected members to work together unitedly to advance community initiatives as a cohesive council. He emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, noting concerns about significant accumulation of dirt in areas that exacerbate environmental issues, especially during rainy seasons. Additionally, he encouraged the elected councillors to fully understand their responsibilities and duties.

MLA & Advisor Mhathung Yanthan underscored the significance of their roles in fostering community development and unity within the council.

The programme was chaired by John Ezung, President NDPP Wokha Region and a dedicatory prayer was offered by Y Chumbenthung Murry, Assistant Pastor of WTBC. 

Short speeches were delivered by Khozamo Lotha, WTC representing NDPP, and Nzano P Kikon, WTC representing BJP, conveying their aspirations and commitments to the constituents. Special numbers were presented by Sojano Tsopoe and L Zaremo Kikon, President BJP Wokha Unit, extended the vote of thanks.
