FGN mourns CEC member’s demise

Kohima, May 4 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) is "anguished" by the demise of veteran Naga leader Tsonuyi Venyo, Central Executive Council (CEC) Member, NNC on May 1.

In a condolence message, FGN remembered him as a “true Naga patriot”, adding “his commitment and zeal for the Naga cause is unquestionable.”

Terming Tsonuyi as a “freedom fighter, a God fearing man, a social worker, a good orator, a good leader and possessed God given wisdom to lead and solve problems,” FGN said he was staunchly opposed to the Shillong Accord of 1975 throughout his life.

Born on September 28, 1943, he joined the Naga national service on July 3, 1961 as Razu Peyu, FGN. In 1970, he was elected as Leacy Secretary Chakhesang Region, Secretary Chakhesang Regional Council, NNC in 1973, Lieutenant Naga Army in 1974, Tatar FGN from 1985 to 2007 and a member of CEC, NNC from 2008 till his death, it was informed.

“Though he was tortured and imprisoned on several occasions he did not give up the Naga dream,” the message added.

Acknowledging that in his death the FGN and Nagas have lost “a true son of the soil, an unsung hero and a veteran leader,” the FGN offered condolence to the bereaved family, especially his wife and children. “May God give strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss,” it prayed.
