Dimapur, September 30 (MExN): The FGN has issued a rejoinder to press statements published in local dailies on September 28 and 30 issues “to clarify and set the record straight, uphold the good name and prestige of the NNC and FGN and dispel the doubts created by the ravings and rhetoric of a person who has the knack to twist and distort facts to create confusion.”
Künüchosa Rhakho, Speaker, Tatar Hoho, FGN in a statement said that the press note has termed the September 23 meeting as “ultra vires, unconstitutional and anti-national but the meeting is in fact ‘Intra Vires’ because as conventionally practiced, the Speaker of Tatar Hoho usually summons convening of the Tatar Hoho.” It alleged that rather the emergency Tatar Hoho held on September 27 is in fact ultra vires as “it was just a closed door meeting of a handful of people held in the residence of Gen (Retd) Thinoselie Keyho, Chedema village.”
Rhakho said, “The Kedallo failed to communicate the resignation of the Kedahge to my office which the Yehzabo of Nagaland provides under “Article 23 (a) The Kedahge shall, by writing under his own hand and address to the Kedallo (Vice President), send his resignation letter. Any resignation addressed to the Kedallo shall forthwith be communicated by him to the Speaker of Tatar Hoho.” This implies that there is no resignation and there is also no Constitutional provision for the Kedallo to summon an emergency Tatar Hoho. The decision of the meeting attended by only 4 Regions to expel 7 persons from NNC/FGN alleging them guilty of treason without initiating legal proceedings and giving a fair trial and the dissolution of the Sumi Region are not valid, it stated.
“The leadership of Thinoselie and Namrikiu enjoys the support of only 4 Regions, out of the 17 Regions recognized and affiliated regions of NNC/FGN,” Rhakho mentioned while alleging the Midan Peyus of the 4 Regions namely Chakhesang, Pochury, Zeliang and Konyak “are people of doubtful character and integrity who do not command the respect of their respective regions nor enjoy the confidence and support of the people.” For instance, Serapra Shijo was terminated as Midan Peyu FGN of Chakhesang Region on September 6 by the Kedahge, FGN it stated and also observed it as “interesting” that a leader like Thinoselie conspicuously lacks support of the Midan Peyu of Angami region.
Rhakho also stated not being fully aware of the character and functioning of Gen (Retd) Thinoselie M Keyho, they had earlier decided to support his leadership though he has lost the confidence of the people under the mistaken impression that he was an asset to the Nagas owing to his age and the vast experience behind him. “But in the due process we experienced firsthand of his dictatorial and unconstitutional way of functioning, one of the reasons why he cannot work in harmony with other Naga leaders,” he remarked. “He also did not know the difference in the functioning of the NNC and the FGN. There was no consistency; rather there were contradictions and discrepancies,” Rhakho added. Citing an example, the rejoinder stated that “in a letter dated February 7, 2023, he had designated Kuzholhuyi Vadeo as Kedahge (President) FGN. Thus, on September 23 after a lengthy deliberation we took the painful decision to withdraw our support to his leadership for the greater interest of the Naga Nation due to his dictatorial way of functioning and losing confidence on his ability to conscientiously lead our nation.”
Further, it also alleged that “Zaleo, the author of the press note” whose writing skill was considered an asset during earlier years, with “the passage of time he became addicted to alcohol and became a chain smoker which blurred his visions, clouded his judgement and made him unreliable.” The FGN alleged that “he often writes under the influence of alcohol is reinforced by the fact that there are many mistakes in the write up and also there are no such persons in the name of ‘brig’ Kükno Khüsoh and Trovüsa Dozo in NNC and FGN set up.”
“Since NNC and FGN is the property of the Nagas, let the people be the best judge,” it added.
