The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) today observed 72nd Martyr’s Day at Zasibito's Graveyard at Jotsoma village under Kohima district.
Paying tribute to all Naga martyrs, FGN President, Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha said, “We observe this 72nd Martyr’s Day, the 18th October, 2023 in honour and remembrance of Zasibito Nagi and all other Naga patriots. This day is observed throughout Nagaland.”
“On this solemn occasion, let us observe with reverence and gratitude because they have sacrificed their lives for the bright future of our people. Many national workers were shot dead, tortured to death and permanently maimed because of the severe torture. Yet Naga people did not dishearten rather come together and defended our land by sacrificing our lives and our all till today and shall continue to defend it in the days to come,” Metha said.
Metha informed that the Naga National Council (NNC) and FGN “are defending the inalienable rights of the Naga people and will continue to protect and defend the Naga National rights.”
The FGN stated that “the lives that our friends who had laid down their lives for our Nation will not go in vain but it will remain alive in the history of our Nation and engrave in our hearts.”
Meanwhile, he called upon all right -thinking Naga people, particularly the younger generation, to come forward and stand together for the right cause of the nation and march together until the national objective is achieved.
A short speech was delivered by Rüdolie Nagi, Chairman, Village Council, Jotsoma. Earlier, the programme was led by Shevohü Keyho, Killo Kilonser, FGN. The programme was marked by reading the names of Martyrs'. It also observed two minute silence in memory of the martyrs, followed by laying of wreaths and mass prayer.
