Dimapur, October 30 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) today refuted what it termed the “press statement issued by the Zhopra Vero group,” which purportedly declared the Naga National Council’s (NNC) endorsement of the impeachment of Brigadier (Retd) S Singnya as Kedahge.
The press statement, published in some local dailies on October 29, “reflects how this recently breakaway group tries to draw the Naga people’s attention with false and fabricated statements to the press and media,” asserted a rejoinder from the Ministry of Rali Wali Affairs, FGN.
Article 144(1) in the Yehzabo of Nagaland clearly states that “a Central Executive Council will guide and control the political policy and the decision of the Nation,” and thus, in the eyes of the Yehzabo, the President/Vice President of NNC (central) along with all Regional Presidents of NNC and its colleagues should make a collective decision, it said.
“But unfortunately, the Yehzabo itself failed to recognise any validity in the press statement by Zhopra Vero,” it added.
The rejoinder also claimed that while political matters are shared constantly, due to his health issues, government authorities met Senka Ao, President of NNC, on October 28, 2024, in Mokokchung to discuss the government’s political developments and the aftermath of Zhopra Vero’s impeachment as Kedallo from NNC/FGN.
During the deliberation, the NNC President conveyed to the Naga people that “Nobody has consulted me within the NNC setup. I do not know, and I did not express my words to anybody endorsing the impeachment of Brig. (Retd) S. Singnya,” it added.
Accordingly, the NNC’s press statement endorsing the impeachment of S Singnya as Kedahge is “null and void,” the rejoinder contended.
It further alleged that the development appeared to be the handiwork of BendangSangtam, the current Vice-President of NNC, along with some self-interested individuals trying to “divide the political lines of NNC and now seated confusingly with the splinter group.”
