FGN on statutory use of Naga national flag

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 12 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) today said that the Naga national flag should only be used on “occasions of the nation,” and cautioned against the “illegal use” of the flag.

A press release from Captain (Retired) Yirei Lungle, Kilonser, Rali Wali, FGN stated that “no individual or group should make/use the Naga national flag without the permission of the NNC/FGN.”

“Since our people (Naga people) have democratically constituted the Naga National Council (NNC) on February 2, 1946 to safeguard the sovereign birthright of our people as a nation, and overwhelmingly given immutable mandate by our people to NNC through voluntary plebiscite on May 16, 1951, the mandated Naga National Council, through prayerful search and clear indication from God Almighty, brought out the Naga national flag,” the press release stated.

It informed that the flag was first hoisted on March 22, 1956 at Parashen, Rengma Region when the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) was proclaimed. “Therefore NNC/FGN, the owner of our national flag has officially been using our national Flag only on the occasions of the nation and doing the same till date,” it added.

The FGN however said that “some unauthorized individuals, organizations and groups are illegally making so-called national flags and using them on several occasions.” It therefore cautioned against such practice and advised on the statutory use of the flag.
