DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 13 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) today called upon the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) Working Committee (WC) and the Government of India to expedite talks and arrive at a political settlement which is honourable and mutually acceptable. A press note from Brigadier (Retd) S Singnya, Kedahge, FGN informed that the FGN supports the ongoing talks based on the “agreed position between the Government of India and Naga Political Groups (NNPGs), working committee (WC) on resolution of the Naga Political Issue signed on 17th November, 2017.” It further reiterated the resolution adopted by the FGN on November 21, 2017 and resolution point no. 1 adopted by the 66th Tatar Hoho on April 6, 2018.” The FGN said it is committed to the “principle of universal democracy,” adding that “the spirit of the Naga National movement is Nagas should be masters of their own land and resources wherever they are.” It further appreciated the Government of India for recognising the historical and political rights of the Nagas to self determine their future in consonance with their distinct identity. “The FGN believes that it will be best to resolve the Indo- Naga Political Issues which could not be resolved in the 1968 talks based on the Ceasefire of 1964 through political process and not through the military process. A realistic not an emotional approach is necessary to resolve political disputes,” it stated. “We are all aware that the 7 decade old Indo- Naga conflict could have been resolved long ago had the GoI been sincere and serious enough in resolving it,” the FGN added, while cautioning that “too much procrastinating is harmful and detrimental for resolving any human problem.”
