Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): Children’s Film Society, India (CFSI), an autonomous body, functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India is holding a film festival for children in the North East, in an attempt to promote every child’s right to entertainment.

The Festival will travel in 8 cities namely Guwahati, Shillong Dimapur, Kohima, Aizawl, Agartala, Gangtok and Malbasey. CFSI will screen its films and will also conduct workshops like film making, film appreciation, etc.

The first phase of the festival which is being executed by Cinedarbaar started on February 25 and will continue till March 12.

The press note issued by Dr Shravan Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of CFSI states that though film festivals are a regular feature in the remaining parts of India, the children of North East have generally not been in the limelight of such initiatives, therefore this event.

CFSI hopes that this festival will open the doors for children to cinema and encourage them to look at Cinema from a different perspective and enable them to gain basic knowledge about films and film making. A group of 15 children from each school will be writing their scripts and shooting 1 minute long movie. The best film will be included in CFSI’s 18th International Children’s Film Festival in “Little Directors’ Section. This will also create and nurture a dynamic cultural environment for children’s films, not merely benefitting the students fraternity of urban India, but also reaching the rural children for parting them the much needed education and moral values and creating a perfect platform for the real developmental growth of our country, said the report.

Dr Shravan Kumar also mentioned that their organization is effectively trying to reach out to the children of the country in various innovative and imaginative ways. And that it has been their constant endeavour to make the children appreciate the aesthetics of cinema as an art form. And in order to attain this objective, CFSI usually conduct film festivals in different States of the country in partnership with local Government, NGOs, Schools, etc. This collaboration is preferred so that the involvement and ownership of the event is shared and also has a local flavour to it, he added.
