Financial inclusion initiative to bring rural masses under banking system by SBI

Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): With a view to engaging Village Development Boards (VDBs) as Business Correspondent (BC), a meeting with selected 25 VDB Secretaries of various villages covering all districts of Nagaland was organized by State Bank of India, Regional Business Office, Dimapur at its Conference Hall today. The meeting was chaired by Deputy General Manager (RBU) SBI Local Head Office, Guwahati and attended by senior Bank Officials from SBI LHO, Guwahati and Regional Business Office, Dimapur and also representatives from Zero Mass Foundation and Dhristi Foundation.   
SBI is engaging Banking Correspondent in 162 villages in Nagaland as allotted in the State Level Banker’s Committee Meeting. AGM, SBI RBO stated that with the support of RD Department Government of Nagaland,  State Bank will cover all the villages having population above 2000 by engaging BCs from selected VDBs in a phased manner. He is hopeful to make substantial achievements within the financial year.
Addressing the meeting DGM, SBI LHO, Guwahati expressed his happiness on the active co-operation of VDBs from various district of Nagaland. He explained the role and functions of BCs towards successful implementation of Financial Inclusion in the State of Nagaland.
A threadbare discussion was took place in the meeting  interacting with VDB Secretaries and a Power point presentation on functioning of BCs was made by Asstt. General Manager (RBU) from SBI, LHO, Guwahati and a definite timelines for implementation of the initiative was set in the meeting. This was stated in a press note issued by Assistant General Manager State Bank of India Regional Business Office, Dimapur.
