Fire drill held to showcase preparations for disasters

Dimapur | January 21 : As part of the “National level fire and evacuation drills in schools in the country,” personnel of Fire Service, Dimapur, led by sub-inspector L Nokcha Aier conducted a fire and evacuation drill at Namghar English School, on Friday. The fire service officer briefed the school management, teachers and students on the purpose of the visit including formulation of School Fire Management Team (SFMC).
Aier gave suggestions on safety measures to be adopted during fire incidents as well as the role of SFMC in preparing floor-wise building plans and displaying of evacuation road maps in corridors and other important areas of the school. He stressed on the importance of emergency exits on every floor of big buildings and need to install fire extinguishers.
Citing cases of fire incidents in schools in the country, the officer said that such precautions will help save lives and properties. Aier further demonstrated the use of different types of fire extinguishers. Later, the fire service personnel conducted an evacuation and rescue drill by enacting scenarios of a fire incident.
Earlier, Principal of Namghar School, Rajesh Bordoloi, in his welcome note said that the school was privileged for being selected as the venue of the fire and evacuation drill from among the 150 odds schools in Dimapur. He also thanked the Dimapur Fire Service personnel for imparting valuable lessons on safety measures during fire.
Other Fire personnel who took part in the drill included Havildar N Basanta Singh, firemen Weshelo, Lhitsolo, Joshua Luho, Sesokhol, Kekroseho, Daniel Romeo, Thotchangan and Levi.
