During the period from January 2008 to January 2009, about 115 fire calls were responded to, by the state’s Fire & Emergency Services and saved property worth about Rs. 45. 83 crore. The estimated property lost during the year is about. Rs. 6.66 crore. This was stated in an annual administrative report of the Home department tabled in the recently-concluded state assembly session. Under special services, the report said, fire and emergency services undertook standby duties at various places like exhibitions, important fairs, VIPs’ visits and other national and state events among others. The services’ projects targeted to be completed by 2009, according to the report, include construction of security fencing at Chumukedima fire station, construction of staff quarters for Mon fire station, construction of a retaining wall in front of the directorate office building and construction of an approach road for it as well.
